4th of July at Our House | Sale!


We've done our typical 4th of July decorating - adding flags everywhere.  It is such a small touch, but when sprinkled throughout, has such a big impact!  I absolutely love how festive it makes our home feel.

We've had some nice rain showers lately that have put my Annabelle hydrangeas on the ground, so I took the opportunity to bring some inside.  Emma took my photo while I added some flags to an arrangement : )



I put the hydrangea arrangement in our living room on the antique chest that houses our Christmas ornaments.

I love the combination of the flags + our antique ship painting.  It makes our living room feel like it belongs on Nantucket... for a moment.  Then I step outside to 95 degree weather and remember we live in Kansas!

Lemon Cream Tartlets | Emma's 1st Baking Gig

Each year I volunteer to donate the desserts for the annual celebration dinner at The Sheffield Place , a facility that serves homeless mothers and their children.  ( You can read about the past posts and desserts here .)  This year, since Emma has taken such an interest in baking, I decided to let her take the reins on this project.  We selected the menu together (I had to rein in some of her ambitions a bit... ) but I put her in charge of the baking, decorating and display.    Robin's Egg Blue Enamelware Trays, $22 There were to be 40 guests at the dinner, so we decided to make 26 Lemon Tartlets and 26 Strawberry Macaron.  I'll save the Macaron recipe for another post - stay tuned for that. An Update on The School House | Tour

We spent the weekend at The School House getting it ready for the transition in just a couple of weeks.  I had planned to dutifully share each step with you, but this project has just moved too fast!  I have taken all of the step-by-step photos as we've gone, so don't worry, I'll go back and explain how we did everything at some point.  I know many of you are interested in how we did the bead-board and peg entry way (favorite!) and how we painted the kitchen cabinets (right over that factory finish!), so I'll share details later - I promise.  *Keep reminding me, because this brain is a bit overloaded at the moment.  Between getting the school house ready, working on the new textile prints that are coming soon, and heading out for spring break, I'm a little overwhelmed.  In just a couple of weeks, all of the extra work will be worth it when we move the inventory here to the school house and my very own team gets to work.  Can't wait! Easy Halloween Treat Inspiration | Homemade & Store-Bought Ideas

Since Emma is now in kindergarten, we've entered the world of store-bought treats vs. homemade.  I don't love the idea, but I know that we can still come up with something fun and creative.  In preparation for her class party and our annual party at our house, I've put together some of my favorite ideas (more below).  This S'Mores Kit is an easy classic that is all over Pinterest.  I think this is the direction we're heading for Emma's class since she loves marshmallows. These are self-explanatory, but for the sake of a supplies list : Marshmallows Chocolate Bars Graham Crackers Small or Medium Cello Bags Ribbon Halloween Tag I have two Halloween Tags this year - the Trick or Treat Silhouettes, and the Jack-O-Lantern .  Both 10 for $4.
