Breakfast Hostess Gift | Banana Bread and Honey Butter

Image
It is important for us to be as gracious of a guests as you are when you’re the one hosting the party.   When you’re invited to someone’s home for dinner or a party, it is always appropriate to bring a hostess gift - the obvious choices being flowers and wine. When I’m hosting a party, while I appreciate these sort of gifts, I’ve already arranged my flowers and have selected wine to serve.  So when I’m the one giving the hostess gift, I like to think about what the host would really appreciate- something she can look forward to enjoying after the party is over.  Because your host has likely spent a great deal of time and energy preparing for the party, breakfast the next day is probably the last thing from her mind.  Wouldn’t it be so nice for her to wake up tomorrow morning after an evening of entertaining to a special treat waiting for her in the kitchen?  Create a breakfast basket filled with homemade (or home-packaged!) goodies like moist and dense bana...

Love you to Pieces | Cashew Brittle Valentine's Gift

Image
I came across this idea for the holidays (after seeing inspiration in an old Martha Stewart), bought the mini hammers for the store, then thought of the phrase "love you to pieces" and knew I had to save it for a Valentines idea.  I think it is a completely darling idea. I'm note an experienced candy maker, but have made this twice and it came out easily each time.  Try it!  It is also fun to actually break up and give in cello bags with the same tag.  If you're making it to enjoy at home - we like to crumble ours over banana cream or chocolate pie.  Yum. Supplies : Mini Hammer Small Sheet Pan Parchment Paper (used 1/2 of a sheet) Plastic Wrap Papaya Satin Ribbon Heart Tags C ashew Brittle 2 cups of sugar 1 cup of light corn syrup 1/2 cup of water 2 sticks of butter 2 cups of nuts (cashews) 1 teaspoon of baking soda In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar is dissolved and mixture comes t...

Brown Sugar & Cinnamon "Homemade" Bread | Holiday Gifts

Image
I've told the story before - before Mike and I were even dating, I served warm "homemade" bread at a dinner party at my house, and he raved about it for weeks.  Did that lead to him finally asking me out?  I guess we'll never know...  The Barefoot Contessa has her "Engagement Roasted Chicken" and I have my "homemade" bread.   You can make a loaf size as in the first photo, or you can cut the log into cinnamon rolls and bake them in the Medium Size Basket instead.  My secret weapon to "homemade" bread is Rhodes frozen bread dough.  (This is not paid, by the way.)  It is found in almost every grocery store in the freezer department.  Over the years I have transformed the simple dough into Cinnamon Rolls, Monkey Bread, Pecan Rolls, Pizza Bread, etc.  When I saw these Wooden Bread Baking Baskets I knew they would be just the thing to take my "homemade" bread to the next level.  I've seen them many times in Martha Stewart used t...

Holiday Hostess Gift | Wine "Wrapped" in a Wrap

Image
Wine is always the best Hostess Gift.  I like to dress up the bottles with wrapping to make it more of a special gift.  Sometimes we'll write right on the bottle with a gold sharpie - I especially like to do this for special bottles we give for birthdays or anniversaries.  And sometimes I tie a bow around with a tag to dress it up a little bit.  Recently, I wrapped a Wrap around the bottle to make a package that is a gift in itself.   I've added a new Deep Red Wrap to my collection.  This has been my go-to this season.  I don't own many (any!?) red blouses or sweaters, so this wrap instantly gives my wardrobe a festive flair.  I've worn it dressed up with a dark brown faux fir vest, my black wool coat and super casual with my olive and navy puffer vests.   For the Wine Wrapped Gift, I tied the bottle with Brown Velvet Ribbon and a Berry Tag . Super Soft Scarves, $12 $10   Wraps, $16 $14

The Best $10-20 Gifts

'Tis the time of year to always have a selection of easy gifts to grab as you're running out the door.  I've put together my favorite one-size-fits-all, budget friendly gifts for $10-20.  They are just the thing for teachers, neighbors, birthdays, friends, & hostesses.  Red Wrap, $16 Ivory Scarf, $12 Red Scarf Above, $12 Quite often, I wrap a pretty set of Taper Candles up in a bow and present that to our Hostess as a gift.  They always get rave reviews if they've never seen such beautiful candles in these gorgeous colors. The 15" Celebration Candles in Gold are always a favorite to give for a birthday or anniversary. I love giving Tablets to friends and teachers, too.  Because these are so classically simple in design, they will suit anyone's aesthetic.  They are also seasonless.  They come prepackaged in a cellophane bag with a logo sticker, ready for giving. LePens are such a treat for anyone.  They are a perfect gift to a teacher. For ...
