Gift Wrap & Packaging | Ribbon & Cello Bags Restocked


I love wrapping gifts.  I have always used simple light weight craft paper and really fabulous ribbon.  I wrapped this first stack of gifts this week using a combination of all different ribbons - some old, some new.  I used some classic Christmas colors, but then added some favorites from years and seasons past.  I think the eclectic-ness adds a charm factor that matchy-matchy doesn't quite acheive.

I think my hands down favorite is this fabulous wide green satin.  So pretty and silky.

This slate colored ribbon (from last season) looks so pretty with the light green snowflake tag.


I think red berry tag looks very sophisticated when paired with the rust colored velvet.

Here, I've paired the green satin ribbons with the Green Snowflake Tag & the Old Fashioned Wreath Tag.  If you go matchy-matchy, might as well go all out!

Each year I volunteer to donate the desserts for the annual celebration dinner at The Sheffield Place , a facility that serves homeless mothers and their children.  ( You can read about the past posts and desserts here .)  This year, since Emma has taken such an interest in baking, I decided to let her take the reins on this project.  We selected the menu together (I had to rein in some of her ambitions a bit... ) but I put her in charge of the baking, decorating and display.    Robin's Egg Blue Enamelware Trays, $22 There were to be 40 guests at the dinner, so we decided to make 26 Lemon Tartlets and 26 Strawberry Macaron.  I'll save the Macaron recipe for another post - stay tuned for that. Thanksgiving Countdown Day 1 | The Menu & Recipes

I remember back in 2010, when I wrote this post for the first time.  We had just returned from our honeymoon in Italy on the 11th.   I sat down at our old kitchen counter  and made the plan for hosting our first Thanksgiving at our house.  We had all of our new weddings gifts to use and I couldn't have been more excited to get organized, prepare a feast and  set the table .  I spent the week scouring antique stores looking for an extra table and chairs to accomidate all of our family.  I was still new to the blogging scene then, and it is so fun to think about where we've come since then.  This year, I am not hosting Thanksgiving.  My Mom has retired this year and I thought she might really enjoy having the time to plan Thanksgiving at her house.  Back in September when we were making holiday plans, I was feeling our Fall schedule tighten up a bit.  So, I offered my hosting responsibility to her instead.  It is a completely lux...

Mother's Day Collection & Recipes

Mother's Day It is such a special time of year.  Spring is really in full bloom, so much so that summer feels just around the corner.  And it is.  In just a couple of weeks, Emma will be out of school and we'll be spending our mornings on walks and our afternoons at the pool.  Between now and then, there will be graduations (Laurie's oldest is graduating from high school!), class picnics, elementary talent shows, Teacher Appreciation Week, and Mother's Day.  The Cherry Blossoms have come and gone, the lilacs are beginning to fade and the peonies are ready to burst in my garden (finally, after waiting about 5 years for a mature hedge to grow).  And I want it all to slow to a crawl so I can properly enjoy it.
