Last year I didn't do a proper Thanksgiving Collection.  It is easy to sort of sweep Thanksgiving in with Fall decor, or just move right on to Christmas - but I LOVE Thanksgiving.  The traditions, the pretty tables, the menu, the schedule of the day, the crisp air, the crackling morning fire, pies baking... all of it.  So this year, I will not move on to Christmas, we will fully celebrate all that is Thanksgiving.

I've been thinking about this concept for a while.  Finally, I've come up with this simple tablet that helps me to get organized for dinner parties, holidays - even home projects.  Here, you can see, I've listed some items to help get me organized for Thanksgiving.  I'll show more examples of how I use this soon!



Is there anything better than a "Kids' Table" at Thanksgiving?


This one set like a bit of a nature hunt + craft table.  Lots to see and touch.



Place settings don't have to be complex - just something simple and special.



Paperwhites are classic Holiday.  They bring a fresh scent and stately life to homes during the winter months.  These bulbs are extra large and a beautiful chestnut color.  They will bloom tall, white blooms.  I begin forcing them indoors in October, then they are the perfect gift for Thanksgiving and Holiday Parties.  They take about 5-7 weeks to bloom.  




I hand-stitched a little "H" on our Hemstitch Napkins.  It took about 5 minutes and gave so much charm to these simple staples.

This collection focuses quite a bit on table settings.  Really, besides making sure your home is cozy and comfortable, setting the table really is the centerpiece for the holiday.  I have created seven individual schemes based on Napkins and Table Linens I have available.  By combining a print with a velvet ribbon, coordinating candle and little sprig of this or that, each scheme is the essence season.

Lemon Cream Tartlets | Emma's 1st Baking Gig

Each year I volunteer to donate the desserts for the annual celebration dinner at The Sheffield Place , a facility that serves homeless mothers and their children.  ( You can read about the past posts and desserts here .)  This year, since Emma has taken such an interest in baking, I decided to let her take the reins on this project.  We selected the menu together (I had to rein in some of her ambitions a bit... ) but I put her in charge of the baking, decorating and display.    Robin's Egg Blue Enamelware Trays, $22 There were to be 40 guests at the dinner, so we decided to make 26 Lemon Tartlets and 26 Strawberry Macaron.  I'll save the Macaron recipe for another post - stay tuned for that. This Week's Menu | Slow Simmered Bolognese, Goat Cheese & Caramelized Pizza, Lemon Chicken

I can not believe it is already the third week of October.  My heartaches a little thinking about it.  The weather is perfect.  Skies are blue, leaves are gold and red, air is crisp - perfect.  I can not get enough of it.  We've been a bit on the run for the last couple of weeks, so I'm going to really try to slow down and relax this week - long walks with Emma and D, easy dinners that leave us a time to play outside in the evenings (before it gets too dark!), and less working.  We have nothing on our calendar for the rest of the month besides a couple of halloween parties and I couldn't be more glad.  Time always skips a little faster for me because I'm already working on packaging up Thanksgiving products this week.  There is a lot of wheat involved (hint, hint).  I do have a couple of more Halloween projects to share, though... I've been dreaming about some Peanut Butter Cup inspired Cupcakes that will come in the next couple of days. Hope...

Easy Flower Adorned Heart Cake | Homemade Valentines

My sister and I grew up enamored by cake decorating.  We spent some favorite mornings at our Aunt Joanie's house watching her decorate wedding cakes.  From the ages of 7 on, we often spent our Saturday mornings making our own creations out of buttercream.  About 10 years ago, I became intrigued by more 'homemade' looking desserts and cakes (ala Barefoot Contessa), likely as I was establishing our own home and style and craving that home-y feeling.   In this iPad era, one of the only things Emma is allowed to watch videos of is DIY creating.  She loves watching playdoh video creations and has recently become fascinated by watching cake decorating videos, too.  Of course, I'm happy to encourage any hobby that interests her - especially in the kitchen.  So, I've dusted off my pastry decorating skills and we've really enjoyed making buttercream creations.  We created our own Youtube Video you can see in the post below.
