Lemon Butter Cake | Embracing Citrus Season

Image
What is it about January and citrus?!  I know that it is actually citrus season, but could that really make me crave it so intensely?  I've been thinking about this lemon cake for about 4 days when I picked up a bag of Meyer Lemons at the store.  While they are becoming easier to get during the entire year, I'm making a real effort to eat seasonally.  I feel like there is so much more to look forward to each season when we wait for seasonal foods and focus on what is best and fresh.  So, no heirloom tomato salads for me in February, and no strawberries until at least until late spring... or until we dip them in chocolate for Valentine's Day ; )  But, gosh, won't they taste good when we do have them. It is January, and we will be making Lemon Cake (actually on the to-do list for today), Crispy Lemon Chicken , Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup , Lemony Shrimp Scampi and Lemon Mousse .  Hopefully that extra hit of Vitaman C will help cure us of our sniffles, too. ...

This year has been one of exciting moves for my business.  You all read about The School House that will by my business' new head quarters.  We're working to have it up and running next month!  Another new avenue I'm traveling down is offering more custom designed products.  I've been at this for a while now, and I find that the only time I'm really able to offer you exactly what I want is if I design it myself.    I'm moving to an almost entire store of completely custom collections designed by me, just for my store.   In the Spring Collection, you'll see some of my newest custom products and some classics.   Not only am I interested in bringing you my custom designs, but I also want them made in a way that feels good.  I want the products that I offer to be made by someone that loves making them and that makes them in a way that they'll last forever. I've partnered with a local service organization, Rightfully Sewn .  They seek out un...

House & Kitchen Stationery Suites | New Card & Envelope Boxed Sets

Image
I've added new Card & Envelope Boxed Sets to my House & Kitchen Stationery Suites .  Like the Tags and Tablets, they are printed on an extra thick creamy cardstock.  The envelopes are a creamy natural white with a luxe texture.  These card sets are just the thing to use as your "House Stationery," as in, your signature.  For our home, I'll use the Navy House Set for hostess gifts, thank you notes to friends or any occasion.  I'll use the Kitchen set (with the French green cooking pot icon, below) for anything that comes from our kitchen - dinner dropped off for a family with a new baby, cinnamon rolls for neighbors, or anything else.   Shop Stationery Sets, here > The Card & Envelops Sets come packaged in a navy blue box.  It is great for storage, or for a gift. Of course, I love using LePens for these tablets and cards.  They've been restocked in sets of 4 or 12 in Grey, Navy & Black .   Shop LePens > French Green Cook...

Pre-Spring House Tour | Kitchen & Hearth

Image
Last week I did a little Pre-Spring freshening around our house.  I can't bring myself to write "winter" but that is definitely the season we're still in, as I sit here looking at icicles outside of the window.  No, this is the pre-spring tour of our home.  My spring bulbs I'm forcing on our counter are sprouting up, feeling very promising.  I've switched out all of our pink velvet pillows from Valentine's Day.  Now they are covered in my favorite, classic Navy Block Prints.   If you are new here, you can find all of the resources for our kitchen, here.   For this post, I'll focus on what is new for this Pre-Spring Tour. This is such a hard angle to capture in our home, but one of my favorites.  I love the big chunky island, with the lanterns above, and all of the windows.  I've replaced my antique "warm" rug that I use during the Holidays with a fresh sisal runner for the warmers seasons.   I replaced our velvet pillow covers with these...
